Alamo sucks - now like 3 yrs ago

The man who was to take me to the lot to get the car complained he was working a night shift and tired; left me at the door and let me walk to the lot on my own "take any car you want"; did not offer to help me with my luggage; did not come with me to do a walk-thru on the car for gas level or scratches. When I came back in to ask someone to do the walk-thru with me, they said "they'll do it at the exit gate." When I got to the exit gate, she said "I don't have time to do that, it's not my job, they should have done it." When I refused to leave the lot without a walk-thru, she made a face, walked around the car in 5 seconds, and opened the gate, without giving me any documentation. I drove out and back in, told the manager about the two workers, and he offered to let me bring the gas tank back empty. Frankly, I would rather have had a good experience than save $40 on a $450 rental. I had an even worse experience with Alamo 3 years ago. This will DEFINITELY be my last use of Alamo.

Rented Alamo car thru Priceline - got screwed!

I will NEVER rent from Alamot or use Priceline again. I booked a rental car in Aruba through Priceline for 7 days. Priceline made me pay for the auto insurance in advanmce, which I did. When picking up the rental car in Aruba, I had to decline the Alamo insurance waiver because I had already paid via Price line. We decided to extend our rental for 3 days so I called Alamo in Aruba and the told me I was all set and to just keep the car 3 extra days. I asked if my insurance was also extended, I was told yes. I didnt think twice about it until my car was hit in a parking lot while I was at the beach. I called Alamo to report the claim and they told me I was not covered because I had signed the waiver. I explained the situation and the could not help me. I called Priceline to see how their insurance extension works and they said I would have had to do it through Alamo and that I was only covered via Price line for the first 7 days. Alamo is claiming that in order to get insurance through them, i would have had to come down and signed something i n person and that they would not help me. The damage to the car was minimal and could have been fixed but they charged be for an entire bumper when i had to turn the car in. I asked how they could possibly have assessed the damage at $1100, the told me that they had sent an adjuster down to my hotel to look at it the night before. The problem is, the adress they had on file was the first place i stayed, after day 7, we had moved to another location so they lied. They never sent an adjuster down. The charged my credit card on file for the charges even though they had not ocmpleted an adjustment! The whole experience was ridiculous but I learned a valuable lesson.

Alamo Rental Car/National Rental Car’s exhibits complete disregard for their customer’s and thei

I booked a rental car with Alamo on-line for 9 days beginning on June 30, 2011 for pick up at the Alamo Rental Car inside Hobby Houston Airport. The reservation was for 1:00am and I provided my flight information as requested so that Alamo would be aware of any delay in my flight's arrival time. My scheduled arrival time was 12:55am however my flight was delayed by approximately 20 minutes. Upon arrival at the Alamo window I observed a sign indicating that the booth was closed instructing customers to proceed to the rental car curbside pick-up. I waited with my two children (one with autism) at the curbside for 25 minutes watching other rental car companies such as Dollar and Avis make numerous rounds to pick up customers on my flight. Concerned about the delay I decided to call Alamo to find out why their shuttle had not arrived. After explaining my question to three Alamo agents at their 800 number I was hung-up on three separate times. I finally got a woman who told me that the Hobby rental car location closed at 1:00am but said she would put me through to customer services and someone would help me there. She transferred me to a man who identified himself as "Ed" from Saint Lewis. Ed was immediately belligerent from the time I said hello. I asked him if he understood why I was being transferred to him as he seemed to have an attitude and I was concerned there may have been some confusion. Ed responded that I must have complained to the booking agent. I explained that I had not complained and the only thing I was told by the agent at the 800 number was that I was being transferred to someone who would be able to help me get my rental car. Despite my explanation Ed continued in an aggressive and adversarial manner and advised me that it was my problem for not getting to the rental car desk prior to 1:00am. Ed then told me that if I wanted a car my only option was to wait until 4:00am when the office opened again. When I asked him what had gone wrong since they knew my flight was delayed and did not wait, Ed offered no explanation only advising me that their policies are corporate issues and I should take it up Alamo's corporate office during normal business hours. When I asked Ed for the corporate telephone number Ed advised me that Alamo does not give out the telephone number for their corporate office. Throughout the conversation Ed continued to refer to me as "Miss" in a highly derogatory and belittling tone. Finally, towards the end of the conversation I advised him that my actual title was doctor to which he responded by saying "that find DOCTOR". I was appalled by his behavior and disgusted with the entire experience. Without any other options, I waited with my children in an unfamiliar Airport until 4:00am for the Alamo window to open. At 4:15am, 15 minutes after the time Ed advised me that a person would be at the Alamo window, I again called Alamo only to be told that they staff arrives at 4:00am for drop-offs but pick up did not start until 5:00am. I advised the representative of my conversation with Ed and they agreed to pick up my family. When I arrived at the counter the clerk acted as if they had done me some great favor by picking us up. When she asked if we wanted an upgrade I responded, sure that would be nice, to which she promptly told us that it would cost an additional $9.99 stating "Alamo does not give anything away for free." When I inquired why they did check our flight information and wait the additional 15 minutes for us to arrive, which I observed that other rental car companies had done, she replied that they lock up at exactly 1:00am and if customers want a car they need to arrive by 12:00am because everything is locked up at exactly 1:00am. It has been my experience that Alamo Rental Car exhibits complete disregard for its customers and in doing so left my family stranded half way across the country for hours on end. Alamo's stated policy of locking-up and leaving at exactly 1:00am despite confirming my reservations for 1:00am is bad business. Further, the disrespectful and unapologetic behavior of its employees serves only to add insult to injury.

You sound like you feel entitled. The location has hours of operation.

They eventually close. They can't wait forever. It's not just the counter person but also the lot person, etc. Imagine the company paying overtime across it's entire system everyday to keep the lights on for stragglers.

Oh, did I mention that a third of the reservations are not kept by the customer but are not canceled? Who should we wait for and how long? How long will it take for your baggage to get to claim? Just wait forever( while on the company dime)?

Plus, these employees want some sort of predictable work schedule too. Do you have any idea how thin the profit is on your little rental? Just spend all of that profit on overtime?

Customer service people are sometimes aggressive because it's the Nth entitled person that day that thinks they are owed something.

That job sucks you should try it, doctor. Think about it from their eyes as well. Sometimes the airline just gets you there too late..

Bummer but it's not the car rental companies problem or responsibility to incur cost when the airline is late. What kind of business model would that be?

thanks for the heads-up. I guess I will stick with Avis.

They treated my two military sons very well and it was appreciated. I only used alamo once, in Florida, and was unimpressed with the assembly-line, robotic atmosphere.

RIP OFF BY ALAMO IN CREDIT CARDS

Rented car at Buffalo Airport. The lone agent at the counter tried every possible way to sell additional coverages, which we declined.Initialled all the places acknowledging same. When we got the credit card bill,we were charged for 'gas' since the car was returned 'empty tank'.The 'smart'rep at the counter preached the advantage of 'prepay gas' which we definetly said no and was initialled in the rental agreement.. Called ALAMO,you returned the car with an empty tank and the charges are legit..??produce the gas station receipt otherwise, the charges are due and payable. We filled the tank - a mile from the airport in the middle of a rainy night - complained to credit card company and advised us to provide a copy of the entire credit card bill to them for issue of credit for the unauthorised charge before they can take up the case with AAALLLMOO... Sent them a deailed message including the copy of the credit card staement and for a few days didnt hear from them. Keep calling and were promised, the customer service will look into the allegations and will respond...Told them ALLLAMMO's fraud tactics, which we also checked out other consumer complaints. Finally,'being a valued customer' without admitting the fraud,we will credit the 'gas charges' to the credit card company..So please watch out - they may tell you the lowest rental charges, while ripping the consumers with hefty extra charges, which many dont check while getting the credit card bill.Never again..Rip off.. consumers beware..

Alamo

I had a horrible experience with Alamo. I reserved my car via my American Advantage Miles. I called Alamo to reserve a car seat however, they wouldn't reserve a car seat for me upon picking up my rental car. Alamo said it was on a first come first go basis...no exceptions. This makes absolutely no sense to me. They wouldn't even hold one if i called before picking up the rental car. I must have spent a total of 4 hours in a matter of 2.5 days trying to get this figured out, I spoke to their CSR via Twitter, I called their 800 # and talked to their call center in India, I spoke to a supervisor and the front desk of the specific location I was planning to pick the car up from. And NOTHING, something so simple... and they couldn't help me. I painted this scenario to them, 1. I travel 2000 miles with a toddler, luggage and stroller 2. I arrive @ my destination pick up luggage/stroller and haul toddler to the rental desk to be told that there are no car seats available. End result - Now I'm stuck, I have no transportation since my son is required by law to be in a car seat, More importantly i wouldn't put my son at risk w/out one. 2. I have to haul luggage, stroller and toddler to find a rental agency who has a car seat available. 3. I'm assed out of the miles i spent renting the car. To make matters worse American Airlines wouldn't cancel w/out me losing my miles. Finally after several calls and conversations with CSR's and Supervisors American Advantage finally changed my reservations to Budget, budget guaranteed a car seat upon picking up my rental car. I will NEVER use Alamo and I'll be sure to tell my friends, family, coworkers and social networking contacts. The power of social media is HUGE.... and I'm PISSED. Huge mistake Alamo, for something so simple as reserving a car seat you lost a customer for life (hopefully many more via my tweets and ranting & raving.

Alamo Rip Off

I reserved a nine-day renatl for a guaranteed price of $197.40. My travel plans changed and I returned the care to the same location two days early, making it available for rental to another customer sooner than it otherwise would have been. Instead of charging the guaranteed rate, they chared me $303.47, an increase of more than 50% over the guaranteed rate. I have taken this up with Alamo customer service, both on line and by telephone. They have given me nothing but double talk. Nothing I recevied before agreeing to the rental suggested that I would be penalized more than 50% for taking the car back to the same location two days early. I recommend aoviding Alamo and using a more ethical vendor.

Alamo charged 2.5xs what they quoted

we went to south africa for the world cup. our travel agent booked us a car with eurpocar/alamo. for 16 days it was meant to cost $495. i signed a waiver which in every other contract means decline a service for their insurance since my visa card covers collision damage. we had a defective tire and returned the car, was told we could get a new car and there was no charge for the bad tire. the car was returned and i wanted a receipt for what we were to be charged and was told it was the amount quoted from my travel agent. five days later i see a charge for $971! my signing the waiver meant i declined full coverage but accepted standard coverage. the defective gps which was meant to be included, the main reason i had the agent do the booking, was $8/day. heaps of miscellaneous fees, surcharges taxes. i issued a dispute with my credit card company, bank of america, with very little relief. two weeks later a charge of $219 was put on for tire damage! i could buy four tires for that kia for that amount. another dispute, alamo showed a quote for the tire not an invoice and the credit card company ruled in their favor. even though the original charge for my rental was based on a quote not the receipt they would not offer at the time of return. last week i received a fee for turning over a speeding ticket from the police to me. it was 10% more thamn the ticket itself. DO NOT RENT FROM ALAMO OR PRICELINE OR HOTLINE IF THEY WILL NOT SHOW YOU FROM WHO YOU ARE RENTING.

Alamo in Santa Clara, California - Charging for damage to a car we did ot rent

We traveled to Tulsa OK the weekend of May 7th - 10th and rented a car from Alamo as we had a coupon for a "good deal". When we arrived at the airport, the attendant attempted to rent us a silver Dodge Avenger with damage to the back bumper and side panels. We insisted the attendant document all of the damage before we would accept the car but she didn't want to do it as the damage was pretty widespread. Instead, the black Dodge Avenger parked right next to it was in perfect shape so she rented it to us instead. On Monday we dropped off the car with a full tank of gas, the attendant inspected it and said everything was fine. A month later we get a bill from Alamo for $500 for damage to the Silver Dodge Avenger. The customer service is almost impossible to contact. In the many attempts my husband has made to call them he has actually spoken to someone once. She said she made a note that we never accepted the silver Avenger however, the bills for the $500 continue to arrive at our house. There are no responses to email and calls are deferred to voice mail which is apparently full as you then get hung up on. This could all be settled quickly if the right person would look at the rental agreement. We were sent the repair bill for the black Avenger and it had the mileage on it. Could they check to see how many miles accumulated on that car the weekend we were in Tulsa? That would be another way to show that we didn't rent the car. If their rental contracts are as messed up as their customer service this may never get resolved. Let this be a warning to others thinking Alamo is providing a good deal. You may have to fight with them for a long time over something obvious like this as they pay absolutely no attention to any information right in front of them.
